Choosing the Right Platform.
| Criteria | WooCommerce | Shopify |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress integration needed? | Native — store and site in one dashboard | Separate — Shopify handles store only |
| Server and data control important? | Self-hosted — client owns everything | Hosted — Shopify manages servers |
| Subscription or membership products? | WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin | Available via apps (limited in Basic) |
| Zero server management preferred? | Requires hosting and maintenance | Fully managed by Shopify |
| Scaling past 10,000 SKUs with B2B? | Enterprise tier with multi-vendor support | Shopify Plus with wholesale features |
| Budget sensitivity? | No platform fees — hosting and gateway only | Monthly Shopify subscription required |
Neither platform is universally better. The right choice depends on the client’s business model, technical requirements, and growth trajectory. We help your agency evaluate both options during scoping and recommend the fit that serves the client best.
How We Build
Six Phases. Store to Shelf.
Kickoff and Discovery
We review the client’s business model, product catalog size, target audience, and revenue goals. Platform preference is discussed, integration requirements are documented, and the full project scope is confirmed before any work begins.
Platform Selection and Planning
WooCommerce or Shopify is finalized based on the client’s technical needs, budget, and growth trajectory. We define the store architecture, map product categories, and outline the integration plan. This phase eliminates ambiguity before design begins.
Design and Storefront Layout
Theme customization or fully custom storefront design. Product page layouts, collection pages, cart and checkout flow, and promotional banners are all designed with conversion in mind. Two structured revision rounds are included.
Store Configuration and Development
Products are uploaded, payment gateways configured, shipping rules set, tax calculations established, and all app or plugin integrations connected. For WooCommerce, custom theme development and ACF-based product management. For Shopify, theme customization and app setup.
QA and Testing
End-to-end checkout testing with real payment gateways in test mode. Cross-browser validation, mobile responsiveness, shipping calculation accuracy, and coupon code functionality. The staging store is shared for agency and client review with one structured revision round included.
Launch and Handoff
Domain configuration, SSL setup, and production deployment. Payment gateways switched from test to live mode. Basic admin training covers product management, order processing, and routine store operations. Every project includes 30 days of post-launch support.
Scope Clarity
What’s NOT Included.
Clear boundaries protect both your agency and ours. These items fall outside a standard ecommerce build but can be quoted separately or handled by your team.
Product Photography or Image Editing
We upload and optimize images you provide. Product photography, retouching, lifestyle shoots, and background removal are not part of store development.
Product Description Copywriting
SEO-optimized product copy, category descriptions, and marketing language should be provided by the agency or client. We configure the content — we do not write it.
Payment Gateway Account Creation
We configure Stripe, PayPal, Shopify Payments, or other gateways within the store. The client must create their own merchant accounts and provide credentials.
Ongoing Catalog Management
Initial product upload is included in the build. Adding new products, updating prices, and managing inventory after launch is the client’s responsibility unless a maintenance plan is in place.
Marketing, SEO, and Advertising
We configure basic SEO settings and meta fields. Ongoing SEO strategy, Google Ads, social media campaigns, and email marketing are separate services available through our SEO and Marketing teams.
Inventory Sourcing and Fulfillment
We integrate with fulfillment platforms and configure shipping rules. Product sourcing, warehouse operations, and logistics management are handled by the client or their fulfillment partners.
Third-Party App Subscription Fees
Shopify apps, WooCommerce plugins, and SaaS integrations may carry monthly fees. We configure and integrate them — subscription costs are the client’s responsibility.
Custom ERP or Warehouse Software
We integrate with existing ERP and warehouse management systems via API. Building custom ERP or WMS software from scratch is a separate SaaS development engagement.
Project Requirements
What We Need to Get Started.
Brand and Design
Logo, color palette, font preferences, theme preference or full design files. This ensures the store reflects the client’s brand accurately from day one.
Product Data
Product names, descriptions, prices, images, categories, SKUs, and any downloadable files for digital products. We organize and upload everything according to platform best practices.
Legal Content
Privacy policy, terms of service, refund and return policy, and any compliance pages required by the client’s industry.
Store Preferences
Payment gateway credentials, shipping zones and rates, tax configuration, and coupon or promotional rules.
Integration Requirements
CRM, ERP, email marketing, or accounting tools that need to connect to the store. We handle API credentials and setup for seamless data flow.
Technical Access
Hosting login for WooCommerce, domain registrar access, WordPress admin credentials, or Shopify admin credentials for Shopify projects.
Pre-Project Questionnaire
Business goals, target audience, competitor references, and specific features that differentiate the store. We provide the form — your agency facilitates the conversation.
Content and Media
Page copy for about, contact, shipping, and policy pages. Images and videos for non-product content. Fresh content helps with SEO and customer confidence.
